Missing Certification

I've been trying to sort out a strange issue and I think I'm about out of ideas.  My team uses the default "Join Date" field and I recently asked people to check theirs and notify me if they didn't match with when they came on the team.  I got a response that no one can see their join dates under certifications and expirations.  I made a test account and it looks like the join date is only visible if "Edit Certs and Expirations" is checked, which I don't want to check for everyone.  Any idea what's going on?

Fixed.  What was happening is those with out change access only saw the dates that expired.  Since Joined isn't one of those dates that have an expiration they didn't see it.  Now they do.
