SARApp Interface not working
« on: March 01, 2013, 03:23:47 PM »
I can't get Mission Manager to download assignments.  I did the following:

On Mission Manager:
Created a mission, made it active
Checked in
Created a search area
Assigned myself to a team
Assigned the team to a search area
Made the team "On Assignment"

On my iphone SarAPP app:
Connected to Mission Manager
Hit the blue arrow on the start tracking page

Get the message:
Successful
Total Assignment(s): 0

I've tried downloading assignments a couple of times with the same result

When I hit the "Start Tracking" button it says:
No assignment found!  Please refresh to get your assignments then try again.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

My issue was I assigning a marker to the K9 team not a area that was created on the map.  Once I created an areas and assigned that to the team they were able to see it.  My thought for just adding a marker is with trailing dogs you do not know where they will be going so you rely more on the track than on an area assigned. I figure I will just add a very small area by where the trailing dog will be starting for now on.

I've had similar issues in the past.  My fix was to make a really big area that gets assigned to everyone, but I'm not sure that's such a great solution.  I wonder if there is a more dynamic way to use SARApp and Mission Manager to track without search areas.

Has anyone tried to get the SARApp folks to change their app so this isn't needed?

"SARApp fouls"???  LOL, should I be offended?

Seriously, SARApp's tracking was originally conceived to support automated POD estimation.  You cannot use this method if you don't have an *area* assignment.  (We use the Random Search formula given a sweep width, path length, and assigned sector area.)

I completely understand that dog teams don't quite fit this paradigm.  However, if you want to track your dog teams (and don't care about the POD estimate) the correct solution is to give the dog teams a search sector assignment, whatever dimensions you want, and the track will show up in MM.

The SARApp team is happy to help anyone with questions or problems, with interfacing to Mission Manager, or the Next-Gen Incident Command System (NICS), or with the SARApp Server (the original design).  Just drop us a line at support@sarapp.com.

Oops!  So sorry about that, it should have been "folks".  No offense intended!  ;D
