Maps - exporting and importing information
« on: October 20, 2015, 06:11:48 AM »
Morning,
We are trying to export map data and we are having some difficulty.

The export options are kml, gpx, and txt and that is fine.

but when we go to import these exports back into maps (on a different users computers), they do not import.

Why is that?

On the Map tab, Mission Manager will export three types of files, but will only import one type of file, which is GPX. The KML file type is mainly for use in Google products, such as Google Earth. The txt file type is so a human can somewhat read the output of the exported files.

I imported a GPX file in Chrome, Firefox, and Explorer just now and all worked as expected. Hopefully importing that file type worked for you?

Thank you..I will try this.

Is there anyway to make a particular map and its data/layers be a default for all members of that team.

I know this is possible in a mission, but we want a map to be default for anyone who goes into the map section. We want this to not be editable by anyone but admins/team leads as well.

No, there is no way to have a non-mission map be the default map for everyone.

Because other teams might use the map differently, for the feature request, I will specify:
1) Configuration ability to have shared non-mission map
2) Configuration ability to default to certain layers on map
3) Permission setting on the "Editable" checkbox on Maps tab

Let me know if I left something out.

This feature request was discussed between MM software engineers and the techsupport group yesterday. Implementing these unique features would be a major change to the way maps are handled in general and therefore require major change of the underlying code.

Before we would embark on such major changes, we’d like to see more support/need from the Mission Manager community for such a change.

So, if there are any other teams that think this update would benefit their team, please comment here. Thanks.
